Filderstadt based exhibition system specialists OCTANORM are quite happy with their participation in this year’s EuroShop from 5th to 9th March 2017 in Dusseldorf. Distributed over three different areas with a total of 470 square meters, they presented a great variety of new product developments and enhancements and visitors could take home a lot of fresh ideas for booth and retail constructions.

Amongst others, OCTANORM presented a new universal system designed for building freestanding walls with a height of up to 6 meters – static proof included. "The new OCTANORM message came through loud and clear," says Thomas Gräter, CEO at the OCTANORM-Vertriebs-GmbH. "It was one of our main targets to present ourselves from a completely new side: close to the customer, modern and contemporary. All this could be realized with the help of an unusual and bold booth design with a captivating linear architecture and a high-quality material mix. Accompanied by a corporate design makeover that comprises not only our business stationery and marketing materials but also a relaunched website and a redesigned logo. The aim of all these measures was to create a modern and unique look including everything from the company logo to the exhibition booth where all fits together as smoothly as the OCTANORM system components themselves," he explains.

All in all, the new location in hall 5 as well as the visitor flow during the five trade show days was very satisfactory. "The feedback we got from customers, partners and even competitors was simply overwhelming," raves Andreas Dober, Head of Design, Development and Engineering at OCTANORM and adds that EuroShop has not only been a special challenge in terms of planning and organization but also as regards the company image. As a matter of fact, preparations have involved a considerable amount of effort: "OCTANORM has been one of the biggest names in exhibition construction for almost 50 years. Many systems that have been developed since the company foundation are still available today and a lot of customers keep on using extrusions manufactured and sold decades ago," continues Andreas Dober. While this basically reflects the high quality and sustainability of OCTANORM products, it is, on the other hand, also the reason for many end customers still associating OCTANORM with simple shell scheme stands consisting in octagonal extrusions and chipboard panels – the kind of stands that are all too often found on small fairs. "Of course we wanted to get rid of this dusty image and show how modern and aesthetic OCTANORM solutions can look if you only give rein to your creativity. Thanks to reliable partners like the companies Ippolito Fleitz Group and Messebau KECK, who have been responsible for the OCTANORM booth design and construction, we have been able to demonstrate this in a most impressive way without bringing the system into the foreground. In the beginning, there actually was much ado about the booth concept here at OCTANORM and it took some convincing before our team finally got enthusiastic about the project. And it really was worth all the effort. The praise of our customers was our greatest reward," says Andreas Dober.

This year’s focus was on the new OCTAuniversal that comes in a square design similar to Maxima but stands out for its completely new connection technique. Besides the traditional tension lock, beams and uprights are secured by means of four bolts and keyholes. "This statically verifiable connection has even been approved by an officially recognized engineer and guarantees maximum security. It is fit for the future and enables the development of new products with an inherent proof of stability, as was impressively demonstrated by the freestanding OCTAuniversal wall. And best of all: depending on his project, the exhibition constructor is saving up to 1,500 € for a stability certificate that is often mandatory for more than 4 m high installations," he concludes.

Another highlight for customers was the new OCTAlumina plus – the latest addition to the existing family of illuminated frames – that builds entire rooms and offers the possibility to play with different fabric layers and materials. "The new extrusion allows the realization of sophisticated light spaces of up to 5 meters in height. There is no need for a supporting framework and the virtually seamless graphics around corners make for a highly aesthetic appearance," explains Thomas Gräter and adds that this effect could even be maximized by a flush mounted illuminated door secured by innovative RFID technology.

CTAmesh, a special illuminated frame with a unique kind of fabric that forms three-dimensional light arcs seemed to be yet another novelty with great impact. Functionalities and possibilities of the new fabric were demonstrated almost nonstop to visitors by means of two demo kits. As Thomas Gräter puts it, the product is "an interesting and promising enhancement of our portfolio that perfectly complements our OCTAlumina illuminated frames. It offers virtually unlimited choices as regards the creation of individual effects and is ideal for use in exhibition construction, retail and wherever you try to attract the customers’ attention by all means." Type and form of the light structures depend on the direction of the fibers and on the kind of light source used.

On other news, there has also been a lot going on in the other OCTANORM product ranges: The two new floor systems OCTAelevate floor and OCTAeco floor are not only extremely versatile, highly loadable and very durable, but also suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Thanks to a new connector, the OCTArig supporting construction can now also be elevated on uprights. The wall system OCTAwall 40 fabric and panel has been completely revised and can now be equipped with fabrics or panels on both sides of the frames. The OCTANORM product novelties are rounded off by OCTAdesign 2018, which is VR ready and allows exhibition constructors and customers to already experience their booth design digitally at an early planning stage.
